IHB .5K Marathon

IHB does it again by giving back to the community that has given it so much. The .5K marathon for charity (because let's be honest, most people are too lazy to do a 5K) will be held in downtown Ellensburg on March 14th. The marathon is to raise money for the F.I.S.H food bank that burned down Thanksgiving weekend 2014. The IHB hockey team will be volunteering at the event, as well as "running" a heat or two in our full gear and roller blades. Come look for us (we'll be the only one's in IHB hockey jerseys. You might be able to locate us by the smell of the hockey gear too.) from 1:00pm - 4:00pm and come "cheer" us on during the race, and come hang with the team at the after party at IHB Pub.

Pond Hockey Classic Tournament: Results

Miss us Kalispell, Montana? We took two teams again this year, with one making it to the playoffs! No podium for us this tournament but what a great weekend. The weather was a little warmer than last year, so the pond ice was getting kind of "soupy" and slushy. We had some new guys join us on this one and it sounds like they had a great time.

Thanks again to Iron Horse Brewery for sending us some some tasty Irish Death and Alumnipa! They were awesome as always and also hooked us up with a $125 tab for IHB beer at Brannigan's Pub.

4-Check for Charity Tournament: Results

Hockey has been a part of the Yakima community fiber for over 50 years. However in recent years the future of the completely volunteer run Yakima Ice Rink, and the sportís foothold in the community, has become questionable. This is where the first annual 4 Check for Charity tournament (January 23rd-25th 2015) comes into play. We are attempting to re-introduce the rink and the sport of hockey to Yakima by showing how we can contribute to the community. To do this we will be choosing a local charity to support each year in addition to raising funds for the Yakima Amateur Hockey Association.

This year we have decided to show our support of Wellness House. Wellness House currently provides support services for individuals diagnosed with cancer, hepatitis C, Fibromyalgia, chronic pain, ALS, depression and more. Additional support is offered for caregivers in the form of bereavement support and grief counseling. They have a Wig & Hat Boutique for women undergoing chemotherapy, a Cancer Care Boutique for women who cannot afford prostheses, a library, educational programs, massage and groups just for fun such as card making, beading and Healing Threads all at no charge!Ē

Great playing by the IHB team. We walked away with the 1st place trophy! (Okay so there was no trophy since it's a charity tournament but that doesn't mean we still didn't sharpie a water bottle as our trophy!) Come check it out at the IHB Pub on Main Street!

Iron Man Tournament: Results

The Iron Man Tournament is a yearly event at the Yakima Ice Rink. It's a 5 game in 3 day tournament, generally in the format of round robin. Apparently we were still getting our ice legs underneath us...not the best finish we've had but a resounding cheer of "Not last!" broke out in the locker room after the last game! We'll take it, it was a great weekend.

April Meltdown Co-Ed Tournament: Results

EHA and Iron Horse Brewery had yet another 2nd place finish! Each year the team has moved another step closer to taking the championship. We had a strong showing in what was one of the strangest 2nd place records we've had so far: 1-1-2. The tournament format was three 20 min period with multiple 5 min overtime periods if necessary.

Battling through a 6-6 and 7-7 tie in the first two games, Iron Horse tallied a win against the Ice Harbor Brewery team with a 12-8 win and earned a berth to the championship game against the home favorite Yakima Team! The competition was fierce in the championship game and IHB found themselves down 4-2 late in the third period. With three minutes remaining they managed to tally a power play goal to pull the gap to 4-3. With less than 45 seconds remaining in the third IHB put it all on the ice and managed to score a heroic goal with only 30 sec remaining to make it 4-4 and take it to over time. Although IHB managed to put a barrage of shots on goal in the OT period Yakima's goalie stood tall. Yakima scored a backhand beauty late in the 5 min OT to end IHB's run at 5-4.

The only thing left to do was to take our bragging rights and trophy back to Iron Horse for a celebratory beer! Make sure to swing by Iron Horse Brewery and check out the trophy. If you see anyone wearing an Iron Horse Team jersey make sure to congratulate them, (and make sure to grab a beer while you are at it)!

You can also see an image gallery of the tournament here on EHA, so check that out!

Menís 4 Play Tournament: Results

EHA and Iron Horse Brewery's team had a fantastic showing in the annual Men's A level tournament. Iron Horse Brewery placed second in the tournament held at the Yakima Ice Rink. There were only 4 teams in what is normally a much larger tournament, however the caliber of each team was very strong! Games we're surprisingly close, and although there were a few injuries that took some players out of the game (one key injury being IHB's goalie suffered knee swelling due to a slap shot that managed to make contact underneath the goalies leg pads) they still had a strong second place finish.

Montana pond Hockey Classic

Not a bad showing for our two Iron Horse teams that entered in the first ever Pond Hockey Classic in Kalispell, Montana. We sent two teams to the tournament, one in the U35 Open division and another in the U35 Just for Fun division. The Open team went 4-0 but lost first round in the playoffs, next year we will know what to expect and will be bringing home that Montey Trophy! The second team ended up going 1-3 in the just for fun division and will be looking for a better record next year!

Both teams had a great time representing Iron Horse Brewery and meeting new people. Players got a chance to meet legendary Hall of Famer Lanny McDonald at the tournament, but neither team had the honor of playing against him in the 50+ Division.

Tri-Cities Summer Freeze Tournament

Once again we put together a team to represent Iron Horse Brewery for our first Summer Freeze tournament, and might I say, we put out quite a solid showing for a tournament that's attracted a lot of attention in the past few years!

We ended up making it all the way to the championship finals and finding ourselves in a 1-4 hole going into the third period. With a lot of grinding and heart we managed to tie it up at 4-4 going into overtime. The first three minutes of the 5 minute overtime sudden death period was dominated by Iron Horse, unfortunently after a strange bounce and a missed pass that lead to a one-on-goalie break away our opponent managed to tally a point to end our cinderella run. No harm in losing to a classy team, they played some great hoockey. But hey, we got some pretty cool pint glasses as a second place prize! Next time we will have our eyes on the coveted first place beer mug!
